What do these Ingredients even mean?

Pectin

Pectin is a plant-based gelling alternative to Gelatin, which is made from animals bones, skin, etc. Pectin comes from the membrane of fruits like apples, and oranges. It's what holds the fruit together. Pectin is often used in jams and jellies but also used for delicious gummies!

Fruit Concentrate

Fruit Concentrates are the essence of every fruit. Most fruits contain high amounts of water so the fruit concentrates are basically the fruit without the water. It's a thick syrup that brings the real fruit flavor and color to every Drop gummy.

Agave

Agave is a natural source of sugar, much like honey but comes from the Agave plant. Technically, Agave is classified as an "added sugar" but there are no sugars added to Agave in the manufacturing process. It acts to sweeten the gummies and counteract the naturally sour taste that some fruits have.

Sodium Citrate and Citric Acid

Fun Fact: Sodium Citrate and Citric Acid are plant-based! Citric Acid is a naturally occuring salt found in some fruits and Sodium Citrate is a salt of Citric Acid. Meaning that if you ferment Citric Acid, you get Sodium Citrate. Citric Acid and Sodium Citrate act similarly since they are used to balance the pH to help the gummies gel.

Compostable Packaging

Yes, I know packaging is not an ingredient but I just had to tell you about the packaging. Unlike most candy brands, Drop utilizes packaging that is certified compostable. Compostable can mean many different things but the packaging I use is made from the corn and beets, PLA (Polylactic Acid), which is a renewable source that is 100% compostable. However, it will not compost in a backyard compost environment. It is recommended that this packaging is taken to a commercial composting site to be fully composted. This is just the beginning so Drop will be working towards innovative packaging that can do more good for the environment.
